India and EU unite for a Circular Economy! A ₹169 Cr boost for EV Battery Recycling.
The Government of India and the European Union (EU) have launched a €15.2 million (~₹169 crore) initiative to develop advanced technology to recycle Electric Vehicle (EV) batteries and secure critical minerals like Lithium and Cobalt.
Key highlights of EV battery Recycling Project
The project is funded by the EU’s ‘Horizon Europe‘ program and India’s Ministry of Heavy Industries.
Its aims of recover high-value materials like Lithium, Graphite, and Cobalt from old batteries.
Apart from this, testing facility will be set up in India to help startups and researchers validate their innovations.
Interested startups and researchers can submit their proposals by September 15, 2026.
Why it Matters for India Economy?
As India’s EV market grows, recycling batteries locally is essential for “mineral security.” Building a household recycling system will both address the challenge of mineral security and support environmental objectives.
