Take the pages you need out of a PDF

You rarely need a whole document. A portal asks for page 3 only, a colleague needs the summary and not the 80-page annexure, or a file is too heavy to upload in one go. Splitting lets you pull out exactly the pages that matter and leave the rest behind.

There are two ways to do it. Extracting a range keeps your chosen pages together in one new PDF, which is what you want when the pages belong together. Splitting into individual pages produces a separate file for each page, delivered as a ZIP, which suits situations where every page is uploaded on its own line.

Splitting is lossless — pages are copied out untouched, so text stays selectable and image quality is unchanged.

Common problems and how to fix them

I got the wrong pages

Physical page numbers rarely match printed page numbers. Count using the thumbnails, not the numbers printed on the page.

The file will not open

It is likely password-protected. Remove the password first, since no tool can read a locked PDF's contents.

The split files are still large

Splitting divides pages, not file weight — a single page with a high-resolution scan stays heavy. Compress the results with the PDF compressor.

I wanted them back in one file

Use Merge PDF to recombine, in whatever order you like.

The ZIP will not open on my phone

Most phones handle ZIP files natively now, but older Android versions need a file manager with archive support. On a desktop it opens with a double-click.

Processing is slow

A document with hundreds of scanned pages takes real computing effort. Close other tabs, or use a desktop browser.

Splitting accurately the first time

• Always verify against the thumbnails rather than trusting printed page numbers.
• Extract a range rather than splitting everything if the pages belong together — it is faster and produces a tidier result.
• Name the output clearly, such as Degree_Certificate.pdf rather than split_1.pdf.
• If you are splitting to beat an upload limit, compress afterwards as well; splitting alone may not be enough.
• Keep the original file until the upload has been accepted.
• For long documents, note down the ranges you need before you start rather than working them out as you go.

Your file never leaves your device

Splitting runs entirely inside your browser, so the document is never uploaded and no copy exists anywhere but on your own device. This matters most when the document is personal — an Aadhaar or PAN scan, a bank statement, a salary slip, a medical report or a signed contract. With a server-based converter you are trusting an unknown company with that file. Here there is nothing to trust, because the file is never transmitted anywhere.
